On Tuesday evening Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White announced a couple additions to August’s UFC on Versus 5 event featuring a welterweight bout between Duane “Bang” Ludwig (20-11) vs. Amir Sadollah (5-2), and a lightweight match between Cole “Magrinho” Miller (17-5) vs. T.J. “The Spider” O’Brien (16-4).
“A match that has a shot at being ‘Fight of the Night’ has been verbally agreed to for UFC On Versus this August, as Duane ‘Bang’ Ludwig and Ultimate Fighter winner Amir Sadollah will throw down,” said White. “Verbal agreements are also in for a battle of submission specialists as ‘The Spider’ TJ O’Brien will face Cole ‘Magrinho’ Miller.”
UFC on Versus 5 is not yet official but is expected to take place on Aug. 14 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Ludwig had been scheduled to meet Sadollah last month at UFC Fight Night 24 but suffered a sternum injury, and was replaced by James Wilks, who then injured himself also and was replaced by DaMarques Johnson. “Bang” is 1-2 in his last three fights, earning a split decision win over Nick Osipczak in his return to the welterweight division. This is Ludwig’s third stint with the UFC and is 3-2 overall.
Sadollah earned a submission (elbows) victory over DaMarques Johnson in that bout last month, earning a second straight win putting him at 4-1 in his last five. The former “TUF” winner earned a unanimous decision in the other victory by defeating Peter Sobotta at UFC 122 last November. The loss in that 4-1 stretch was to Dong Hyun Kim who earned a unanimous decision over Sadollah at UFC 114.
Miller was defeated by Matt Wiman in January, losing a unanimous decision at the UFC: Fight for the Troops 2 event. Both men had been scheduled to appear at the UFC 125 event but were rescheduled to the Jan. 22 event. The loss ended a “Submission of the Night” streak for Miller, who earned the bonus back-to-back over Ross Pearson at UFC Fight Night 22 and Dan Lauzon at UFC 108.
O’Brien made his debut in his last bout, losing in the second round to Paul Kelly at UFC 123 by TKO. That was “The Spider’s” first loss after stringing together six straight submission wins. All sixteen of O’Brien’s victories has been by submission, with only three wins coming after the first round.
